Shawn Malhotra - Councilman

My name is Shawn Malhotra. I am originally from India, and I am the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. My father was a farmer, and my mother was a housewife. My parents believed in God and were very hard workers. They believed in God and taught us the value of hard and honest work. They taught us to be kind, compassionate and respectful. My oldest brother has a very high post in the Judiciary System of India. He taught us to never misuse the power of a low or high position.
Before I came to the United Sates in 1989, my religion was Hinduism. In 1991, I became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and became a Christian and by doing so, I became the first Christian in my family. All my family members respected my freedom of choice and did not disown me. To this day, I have never regretted my decision to believe in Jesus Christ. Despite human weaknesses and short comings, I believe and know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of all Mankind.
I love this country and I believe that God has been protecting this country from the very beginning. I strongly believe that human life is valued more in the United States, than any other country in the world. Coming to West Virginia after entering the USA was a blessing. West Virginia is truly a Wild and Wonderful state. I love the people of WV. I have lived in WV longer than I lived in India.
I got married in 1994. My wife Deepika Malhotra came to the USA in 1996. We have been blessed with 2 wonderful kiddos. My older son, Anand, has served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 2018-2019. My younger son Aman has been serving as a missionary in London, England since May 2020 and will be returning in May 2022.
I have been serving as a member of the Montgomery City Council since 2016. It is an honor for me to serve for our beautiful town.
